4 Year Check-Up

Colin had his four-year well visit today with a new doctor!  We have switched pediatrician's offices because our regular doctor left our previous office.  We don't even really know the story behind why it happened. But honestly we were looking for a change but didn't want to leave him because we liked the continuity that came with seeing the same doctor since our children's birth.  But I'm looking for a more caring, nurturing, and warm environment so I'm hoping we have found it at our new office!  So far so good.  We had a good experience today.

Colin got a flu mist and two vaccines and each of the girls got their flu shot too.  There was a lot of paper work to fill out just for 3 flu vaccines!

He is a BIG boy.

Height: 44.75 inches (100%)
Weight: 46 lbs (98%)

They even took his pulse and blood pressure just like an adult.  The nurse got out the blood pressure cuff and asked him if he knew what it was for.  He said, "For checking your blood pressure."  I guess playing doctor with his doctor's kit paid off!  He also impressed his doctor with his ability to jump on one foot.  He has been practicing because for some reason that seems to be a common request at every check-up!

He is a healthy, growing boy.  No issues.

He IS struggling a bit with swim lessons.  That is not an area that seems to come to him naturally.  It is hard to tell because I am comparing him to the 4 other kids in his class but I have no idea how old they are (they could be older) or if they have taken that class before.  We were shocked when they handed out a paper on the first day that said the AVERAGE number of times that a child has to repeat a level is FOUR times.  We don't mind him having to repeat on principle except that it gets expensive.  Keith wondered if maybe there is something wrong with their teaching method if that is the average.  Wow.  We'll see how it goes.  Luckily he is having fun and doesn't even seem to realize that he is struggling.  :)  Ahhh, to be four!

  1. Wow. He is a BIG boy. Charlotte is now a wee thing - she weighs about 35/36 pounds and is just barely over 40 inches tall.

Strange about the jumping on one foot - Charlotte's doctor has never asked her to do that.

Don't worry about swim lessons, although yes, it is expensive. We stopped after our third (fourth?) two week session because it is such a time commitment. She made so much progress, but much of that has been lost since ending the lessons. I am pretty surprised by the idea of four times on one level before advancing. That seems like a lot. It took Charlotte at most two sessions at one level to advance and she is not some super gifted child at swimming. Yes, as long as he's having fun that's what matters.
