In Rainbows

The girls turned one on Friday and had their first birthday party on Saturday!  We went with a rainbow theme for the party.  I liked it because it is bright, cheerful, and happy and of course they aren't into any characters or anything yet.  Most everything we did for the party was homemade which made it more fun.  What can I say, we live in a Pinterest era!

The weather man kept saying rain all day on Saturday and we were pretty bummed.  We just had out deck re-stained and installed a new umbrella for shade.  We were totally hoping to have the shin-dig outside.  It ended up raining a bit in the morning but then the sun came out of nowhere in the afternoon and it turned out to be a great day after all!

Invitations made on our computer (I got the design inspiration from Etsy)
Rainbow Cake with a sprinkle "1"
A rainbow surprise inside!

Fruity Pebble Treats (made by Keith and Colin) and rainbow sprinkle pretzel rod party favors (made by Grandma, Keith, and Colin)

Tissue paper pom-poms make a pretty cheap and easy decoration.  Thanks Kristen for directing me to the Martha Stewart tutorial.  We found a helpful how-to video on You Tube too.
Our rainbow fruit tray didn't quite turn out when they didn't have blueberries at the grocery store and we forgot the green grapes.  Oh well, it still looks nice.
The girls' bears got a makeover when Grandma made them rainbow tutus!

Keith and I made this growth chart ruler as a gift for the girls (Keith did everything except the numbers).
We'll put the kids' heights on it every year and it can come with us if we move.  Thanks to Kristen for this idea too!

And now for the guests of honor!

It is so hard to believe that our little girls are one already.  But I'll get into that when I do their 12 months post (waiting on their doctor visit next week).  It was a great party and I think everyone had a great time celebrating these two little bright spots in our lives.

  1. Oh, everything looks great!! Very well done. I love the girls' tutus. I love the lettering on the invites. And the growth chart and pom-poms turned out great! The cake looks fabulous! Looks like it was a great party--happy birthday, Julia and Caroline. :)

  2. Awwww...it all looks so great!!! What a fun birthday theme! The girls of course are so adorable. I especially love the cake! I made a ruler like that for Sebastian's room and we've marked Amelie on there twice. In the last year she's already grown 5 inches. :)

This all reminds me I need to get started on planning the kids' birthday party.
