It's been a hectic week around here. I'm ready to say see you later to January. Luckily the last day of the month is Keith's birthday so that is something fun to close out the month.
First of all it has been really busy at work. January 15 (Saturday) was a mandatory work day for the project that Keith and I are on. In the office. Luckily for us, we got excused from having to come into the office and were allowed to work from home since we don't have childcare for Colin on the weekends. There are two other married couples on our project (it is huge) that also have young children. I think they were excused too. So it's been stressful at work and there has been quite a bit of evening and weekend work for us.
Then last Monday Krystal had to go into the hospital suddenly! I got a call at 7:30 AM saying she couldn't come in that day because she was in the emergency room. So Keith and I were able to split Monday and Tuesday by each of us taking a half-day off and going into work the other half of the day. During this time we were getting very little communication from Krystal and didn't really know that much about her situation. We lined up my parents to come up on Wednesday but then Krystal called and said she would be in on Wednesday and would be able to work the rest of the week. So we cancelled my parents and she came in on Wednesday. Unfortunately, she was just in too much pain and while she finished out Wednesday, she said she couldn't come back on Thursday or Friday. So luckily my parents agreed to come up on Thursday and arrived around noon. Keith and I each spent a couple of hours "working from home" on Thursday morning. My parents stayed and took care of Colin on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. THANK YOU!
Meanwhile, we found out that Krystal will be having a fairly serious surgery on Monday (tomorrow) and will be out for 4-5 weeks for recovery. So we were pretty panicky needless to say and definitely concerned for Krystal too (although she should be fine once this whole ordeal is over for her). We started pursuing a few options simultaneously to find a back-up nanny for Colin. We called two agencies and I talked to a friend of mine who has used several nannies over the years. We lucked out with one of the agencies. They had a nanny who is a senior at OSU but who is taking a quarter off because the class she needs for graduation isn't offered right now. She is free until the end of March and could start tomorrow. We saw her resume and she sounded great so we decided to interview her. She came over Friday evening.
OK so I wrote that post Sunday night and somehow it didn't get published? Anyway, just to give an update. The first day with Abby was awesome! She is just tons of fun and so sweet. She doesn't keep things running quite as smoothly in the household as Krystal but that really doesn't matter and it was only her first day. The important thing is that Colin seemed to love her and she is already smitten with him too! Unfortunately a big ice storm kept her away today and threatens to do the same tomorrow. We worked from home today and the neighbor girls came over to entertain Colin so that we could work. That was a big help! Shew, will things ever be normal again?
Keith had a really nice birthday even though I had to work late and we couldn't go out to dinner. He didn't care and we enjoyed cake and gifts. I'm just ready for some normalcy around here!

I've been thinking of you guys as we have heard all about the snow and ice storm updates. I didn't imagine you would be going through so many other tough challenges with work and Ms. Krystal. I hope she heals quickly and that all goes well with her surgery. What a blessing to have found Abby. I'm sure you'll be back to "normal" in a few days, but keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteWOAH! I'm so sorry to hear about Krystal and all you have been going through! I'm so glad you have found someone and I'm not surprised that Abby LOVES Colin!! :)
