ABCs and 123s

Colin is a very lucky little boy. In September he started receiving special letter boxes from Meme and Pop Pop. "A" was the first box to come (makes sense). Each box contains basically the same items: a wooden letter handmade and painted by Pop Pop, a small stuffed animal starting with the appropriate letter (so far we have an antelope, beaver, chipmunk, dragon, and elephant), a set of homemade flashcards of items starting with the letter (including a Colin card, a Daddy card, and an Eli card), some sort of craft (assembling an alligator or a bumblebee for example), and some coloring pages of things that begin with the letter. Sometimes there are other cool things in there as well (a bag of donuts for D, an ear of dried corn for C). We have received 5 boxes so far. Each box comes beautifully decorated with pictures cut out of magazines or like on the D box, Daddy's face blown up on a copy machine!

And not to be left out, Pop Pop assembled a wonderful box on his own and we got it on Wednesday. It is a number box! It contains the numbers 0-9 all handmade and painted different colors plus 10 pretty handmade blocks made from a walnut tree that fell in their yard. These were all contained in a soft bag they made out of t-shirt material. In addition there was a beautiful wooden abacus (made by Melissa and Doug, not Pop Pop), and a fun book about numbers. Colin loves it all!

We can't wait to get F - Z. Colin really gets excited about the boxes (they actually come addressed to Krystal and Colin because they do the crafts together). She really enjoys them too. We might have to request special storage for our flashcards, wooden letters, and stuffed animals by the time we're done! Thanks guys, we love you!

  2. I already knew about this from seeing your pictures online, but just wanted to chime in that I absolutely love this. What a fun way to learn your ABCs. Your parents must put a lot of thought into it each month.
