Wild Weekend on the Town

At least for us. This past weekend was our first overnight trip without Colin. Keith's parents graciously agreed to come to our house for the weekend to watch him Saturday night (thank you!!). They even left Friday after working a full day to drive up here so that we could get an early start on Sunday.

We went to Cincinnati's Octoberfest with our friends Mark and Anne who live in Southern Indiana. We met in Cinci which is right in the middle. It was a sunny, warm day and the German beer and treats were plentiful. We stayed in the Millineum hotel and had a good view of the city and the Bengals stadium. We ventured away from the festival for a couple of hours in the evening to enjoy some really good Thai food and sushi. It was a fun day and it was nice to have some adult time, although I have to admit that Anne and I spent at least 90% of the time talking about babies, looking at all of the babies, and even talking to a particularly cute baby and her Mom. We only called home twice (once that evening and once on our way home the next morning). We had grand visions of sleeping in but I couldn't sleep any later than 7:45 AM. We didn't linger over a leisurely breakfast either because we were both anxious to see Colin. Just more proof that things will never be the same after baby!

Colin did AWESOME with his grandparents. Or maybe I should say that they did awesome with him. They walked to the park with him during the afternoon and that evening they took him to church and out to dinner! I must admit I had my doubts about Colin's ability to hold up during an entire mass (I was worried about how fidgety and squirmy he is) but apparently he was really good. He enjoyed looking at all of the people (especially the other children), eating Cheerios, and looking at books. The next morning there was even pancake-making! Best of all, they agreed to do it again. Thanks very much Grandma and Grandpa! Here are some pictures from your fun babysitting adventures.

  1. How fun! I'm glad you guys had a great time and that Colin was so good. Now you can rest easier next time. I can't wait for our first weekend away, even if it does consist of talking about babies most of the time :)

  2. Yay for grown up time!!! :) I can say that for at least the first 2 years when you get a night away you still talk about your child, but at least you can talk about your child without being interrupted BY your child!! HA! Sounds like a fun getaway!

  3. Congrats on a weekend away. You and Keith totally deserve it, even if you can't sleep in (neither could I). And of course talking about your baby just naturally happens, but that's okay. It's normal. :)
