12 Month Update

Colin had his 12-month check-up today. It was fairly uneventful which is always a good thing. He got 4 vaccines (including his flu shot) and a finger prick to check his iron level. It was very good (12.5 somethings)!

Height: 32 inches (97th %)
Weight: 20 lbs, 9 oz (10-25%)

He is sick now actually. He has a runny nose and a low-grade fever. Krystal has been sick so he has been exposed to some germs. Poor little guy!

Here's a few highlights of what Colin has been up to this past month.
  • He can play the "So Big!" game with gusto
  • He is walking with his push toy and can maneuver it like a real pro. He is taking a few steps on his own too but I really wouldn't say he is walking. He can take at most 5-6 steps by himself. He is cruising around on furniture with ease.
  • He is off of baby food and completely onto table food. That boy can EAT! He loves food. The only thing that we have found that he refuses to eat is steamed plain broccoli. But can you blame him? It is easier to feed him what we eat (and cheaper too) but it's definitely messier.
  • He is no longer nursing. We gave it up the week before his birthday. We had a good long run of it but I think we both felt the time was right to give it up. We were down to only one feeding at night at that point and I don't think I was producing much milk anymore. It is a little bit sad but I was ready to be done and he didn't even seem to notice the switch so I guess he was ready too! I'm happy to have made it a full year.
  • He is digging the cow's milk. He prefers to drink it from a bottle though and not from his sippy cup. He can hold the bottle and drink it himself which comes in handy in the mornings when we're getting ready for work and he's ready for some milk.
  • He is making a lot more sounds and possibly words (it's kind of hard to tell).
  • Still steady at 4 teeth
  • He is protesting more this month. He knows what he wants and what he doesn't want. He doesn't like having his face washed or being told that he can't do some things.
  • I've rejoined the world of working out after basically an 11-month hiatus! I'm running about 3 days a week right now. I go in the mornings a couple of days before work on the treadmill and then we've been running together on the weekends. Keith pushes the jogging stroller thankfully.
We're excited to see what Colin's second year will bring!

  1. Great post! Tall and thin, just like his mom and dad. :)

I also gave up nursing about two weeks before Charlotte turned one. I was realizing she just wasn't getting anything out of me, and of course, when she bit me, it was DEFINITELY over! I, too, was happy that I made it one year, and ready to be done.

Anyway, glad to hear you're working out again. I try to when I can, but it's hard to find the time.
