Today I had my 23 week doctor's visit. Everything went very well! I have gained 14 pounds which Tiffany (the nurse midwife that I like so much) said was "textbook." She calculated how much weight I should have gained and then checked my actual weight gain and both were 14 pounds so that is good news.
She also took my "fundal height" measurement which is the distance between the top of the pubic bone and the top of the uterus. Since I am 23 weeks, my measurement should be 23 centimeters. This would mean that Sweet Pea is growing at the proper rate and that I have the right amount of amniotic fluid. I was 23 centimeters on the dot. When Tiffany was taking the measurement she told me that Sweet Pea kicked her!
Sweet Pea's heartbeat was 16o beats per minute which is perfectly normal...and the same as last time they gave me a measurement.
So it was a very positive visit! During my next visit (in 4 weeks) I will be tested for gestational diabetes (and have to drink a very sweet orange drink prior to the appointment). After that appointment, I'll start going for check-ups every two weeks.

Oh yum, the GD test coming up! Such fond memories...:) My advice: don't anything two hours before the test. You're not supposed to fast either, but you want to give your body time to process the blood sugar. Otherwise, you wind up with a false positive and have to take the 3 hour test, which is not fun!
