On Tuesday I was officially 28 weeks along. I had an ultrasound at Riverside Hospital on Wednesday morning and a visit to my regular ob/gyn on Thursday morning for the much anticipated and so delightful glucose test for gestational diabetes.
The ultrasound was good - the babies are both weighing 2 lbs, 14 oz which puts them in the 66th percentile for singleton babies. Go jelly beans! They are also both head down which is music to my ears. At our 26 week ultrasound Baby A was head down (like she always is) but Baby B was sideways across my belly! And then by the end of the ultrasound she was in a breech position. She is going to be our troublemaker I think! Their fluid levels were a little bit disparate but not alarmingly so. However, we saw the very conservative doctor. She said that on a scale of 0 to 10 she was 0.2 concerned about thier fluids. But since she wasn't ZERO concerned she wants us to come back next week for another check of their fluid levels. But that is fine...one more chance to see the babes. I wonder what my insurance company would think of her scale at about $1500+ a pop for these ultrasounds?
The ob/gyn visit was pretty uneventful besides the blood draw for the gestational diabetes test which I don't know the results of yet. We did talk about the possibility of having my tubes tied if I end up having a C-section and she made a note in my chart about that being my desire assuming everyone is healthy. Of course I am certainly hoping NOT to have a C-section but know it is more likely with twins.
I have gained 23 lbs and am quite huge in the middle. It is hard to get up and down off the ground or off the couch or out of bed. It's hard to bend over and pick something up off of the floor. It's hard to pick Colin up. I tried painting my toenails last night...forget about it. My sister and I are going for a pedicure next week instead. By the end of the day I feel this big stretching sensation in my stomach. It just feels really tight and like someone is streeeeetching it out slowly. Of course, this is probably what is happening. I am running out of maternity clothes that fit me already and am planning on buying some more soon...waiting for Old Navy to send me an email that they are having a sale!
The babies move a LOT. It seems like for the most part though they are either both moving or both asleep. But when they are both feeling spunky, watch out. I sit at work and wonder how my coworkers don't notice my belly hopping around out of their peripheral vision.
My friend Nancy mailed me the beautiful curtains and bed skirts that she made for me. I have ironed them and put them up and they look fantastic!! I couldn't be more pleased with how they turned out. She did a wonderful job and is very, very talented. Now I am just working on accessorizing the room.
We bought a La-Z-Boy rocker/recliner for the nursery. It is not the prettiest thing in the world (I tried to choose one that isn't extremely hideous) but it is soooo comfy. I think being able recline in it a fussy baby or two will be just the thing. I remember many a night with Colin wishing his glider would recline so I could catch a wink or two. It won't be in for a few more weeks.
We are headed to Indiana this weekend for a long weekend - taking Monday off. It will be our last excursion away I'm sure before the babies come. Next weekend is my baby shower! It's hard to believe the babies will be here in probably 8-10 weeks!

28 weeks pregnant with Colin
Looking ready to deliver any day at 28 weeks with the twins!
I think you will love your rocker/recliner--there were many a nights when I fell back asleep in mine. For a while, I remember trying to only wake up as much as it took to walk into L's room, then I'd fall right back asleep while he nursed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you can no longer paint your toes, but three cheers for a pedicure! That is fun. Glad to hear the GD and anemia tests came back negative, and I hope the follow-up ultrasound was with a positive outcome as well!
You are glowing!!!! :) I love reading your posts and I'm so glad the jelly beans are doing so well! I wanted to ask you if you would like the baby toys that we are done with (the little ones that can go on strollers, car seats, etc.) Ryan only wants big boy toys and I was thinking you might want a few more since you will have 2 little ones to keep entertained! If not- no worries! :)
