Life Goes On

Well things are still not back to normal here but life is marching on. Colin did great at Ms. Jane's last week. He had no problem being dropped off (no tears from him or me), meeting all the new people, or being kissed by Jane's giant dog Cody. He even adjusted to only one nap a day with apparant ease! Another thing that he easily welcomed were GERMS! He was there Tuesday through Thursday of last week and on Friday he came down with a fever of about 101.5. We took him to the doctor on Saturday morning and she confirmed he had an ear infection AND croup. Poor baby. He's never really been sick to speak of though so in some ways it is probably good that he got a little exposure to some germs so that he can begin building up his immune system. It is just so sad to watch him, especially when he coughs and then his face crumples with tears because it hurts. I just wish I could take it away! He's on antibiotics for the ear and steroids for the croup. He seemed a bit better today but still far from normal. Hopefully tomorrow we'll see bigger improvements! Keith is sick too with a head cold so I've been taking care of my boys this weekend and trying to avoid getting sick myself. I did notice this morning that Colin is finally getting his seventh tooth after not getting a new one since October!

In other awesome news, Krystal fell down the stairs on Thursday and got a concussion! She was in the hospital for 24 hours and is home now trying to rest as much as possible. She still expects to return to work on March 1 but plans on working only half-days that first week back. I hope she'll be able to do that. It still seems like she has a lot of recovery ahead of her, especially given this set back.

But last weekend we had a good weekend! It was Valentine's Day weekend and Grandma and Grandpa O were here. We had a nice lunch out on Saturday and then took Colin to the library to get some new books since Ms. Krystal hasn't been here to take him. Then Grandma and Grandpa took Colin to church and out to dinner while Keith and I got to have a Valentine's Day date night! We went out for a very nice dinner and then to the movies. It was REALLY nice to have that night out (thanks Grandma and Grandpa) and we made it a pact not to talk about the theft at all. After the movie we went shopping for Colin's Valentine's Day gift which Keith was all excited about. It was a remote control monster truck meant for ages 2 and up so it is very basic. Keith couldn't wait until Monday to give it to him and so he gave it to him on Sunday night. Colin is scared of it! He doesn't understand what is making it move. Oh well, maybe next Valentine's Day he'll be ready for it! I got lovely flowers and lotion for Valentine's Day. It was a good day :)

  1. I was actually wondering whether Colin would get sick going to a daycare, but I sure didn't expect him to get croup poor guy. The good news is that after some point the constant illnesses end -- at least for us. Charlotte has been in super good health for months, even managing to miss the colds that both Chris and I have had (I'm sure I just jinxed myself by admitting to that).

And you guys can't seem to get a break with poor Krystal falling down the stairs. I hope she's okay soon.

I think it's hilarious that Colin was afraid of the remote-controlled truck. Too funny!

I'm glad you were able to get out for a nice meal. It helps so much to have time to yourself.

    Hang in there!

  3. I'm so glad you had a great Valentine's day - a date night, time with family, and a monster truck are great ways to move forward. I hope Ms Krystal improves very soon and that Colin and you all can get back to his routine with limited germs!
