We sang some songs with hand movements in the water (Hokey Pokey, Wheels on the Bus, Ring-around-the-Rosy), played with rubber duckies, practiced floating on tummies and backs, held onto the side of the pool, sat the babies on the side of the pool and brought them into the water, went down the lazy river three times, and went through a little waterfall. Obviously we had to move Colin's hands through the motion songs and when he was "floating" we were holding onto him the whole time. There are about 15 kids in his class and it is led by a nice instructor lady.
Colin was pretty serious and intense during the class. He was really taking everything in and seemed to be trying his best at each activity. He never fussed and he didn't seemed taken aback by it either. I think it was a big success! The 30 minute class definitely wore him out - he fell asleep on the 5 minute ride home and again on his changing table as we were taking off his jacket and putting on his blanket! We have 7 more classes that run through May. Next week Keith said he is taking him under (that is actually a goal of the class) so we'll see his reaction to that!
Ready to swim!
Practicing the back float
Having fun in the pool!
How FUN!!! Lindsey is in a swim class right now and she LOVES it! We practiced pouring water over L's head at the first few classes (and we do the same practice at bath time) and now she knows the routine! She is a champ at going under water!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Colin looks like he's having so much fun. I so want to do this with Charlotte. The local Y offers a Mommy and Me swim class for babies as young as six months. I just need to sign up for it already!!
