Last One

We had our last class at St. Ann's hospital this Saturday. We've been there four times now - it's really beginning to feel like a comfortable place for us. We know our way around the first floor of the Maternity Pavillion pretty well by now! That seems like a good thing.

This was the Labor and Delivery class and included a tour of the maternity floors. It lasted from 9 AM to almost 5 PM. It was a long but fun day. There were lots of couples there - it was definitely the most heavily attended class so far. There was one couple there with our exact same due date, also expecting a baby boy. We learned a lot about the signs of labor, the anatomy of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, what to expect at the hospital, etc. The part I was really interested in came in the afternoon. We learned breathing techniques, labor techniques for Mom and her labor partner, and Keith learned some good massages (the instructor had the Dads try them out during class so that was a nice bonus). They had birthing balls there and I enjoyed using those. The instructor had the Moms and Dads divide up and come up with a list of questions that we wanted answered before the end of the class was over. It was interesting to hear the Dads' questions. There were some good ones on there but by the end of the time alloted for coming up with our respective lists, we could hear that their conversation had turned to football! It was nice to take the tour of the maternity floors again even though we had seen it all before in our initial hospital tour. It just helps us to cement in our minds where we need to go when the big day arrives.

So now we're done with our formal classes. Hopefully that means we're ready!
