Two Times Two

What happens when you have two hit the Terrible Twos at once?  We're about to find out!  But I'm not too worried.  These girls are pretty darn sweet and the Terrible Twos is a misnomer.  Three is much worse!

So yes, they are sweet but they definitely have their moments.  Julia has turned into quite the drama queen lately, hurling herself on the couch or floor and crying, screaming, and kicking if she doesn't get her way. And Caroline has become quite clingy.  Around a lot of people she'll cling to Keith or I and not want to go to other people, even if it is just family that she knows well.  And the two of them are quite often fighting over toys which means we have to have two (or three) of everything to keep the peace.  We try to teach them to trade toys or offer something in return for the toy that they want to take.  When it works out, they will happily hand each other toys and exclaim, "Traaaaaaaade!"

Julia (left) and Caroline (right)

So those are the low points.  The highs is a much longer list.  They are talking (and singing) up a storm by now.  Julia is easier to understand than Caroline.  But both of them are harder than Colin ever seemed to be! Julia is a three-wheeled scooter riding fool and has been able to navigate that thing like a pro almost from day one.  Caroline prefers to be pushed on Colin's tricycle.  Julia is a good eater and Caroline is our picky one.  She'll eat almost nothing most nights until everyone else's dessert comes out and then she'll shove in just enough bites to earn her dessert.  Julia is a good eater like Colin.  Breakfast is an exception where everyone eats well!

They know pretty much all of their letters and can count to 13 or so.  They know most of their colors consistently now too. Caroline is a little better at all of the "academics" than her sister.  It's just interesting to see where one excels versus the other.

They're still taking one afternoon nap a day although sometimes someone won't actually fall asleep.

They are into Sesame Street, Octonauts, and Dinosaur Train.  They prefer trucks and trains to dolls (I think because they have an older brother) and don't know much about things like Disney princesses.  Although we took a trip to visit cousin Macy over Memorial Day weekend and they learned a lot about them!  They love books.  They each sleep with about 5-8 "friends" on any given night and we have to kiss each one goodnight before we get to kiss them.

They love running naked before and after bath.  They love their big brother (Bubby).  We love them so, so much.

Here's how they measure up at two years old:

Julia
Height: 34.25" (71%)
Weight: 26 lbs, 6.5 oz (47%)
Head: 49.5 cm (93%)

Caroline:
Height: 34.5" (77%)
Weight: 25 lb, 1 oz (28%)
Head: 49.5 cm (93%)

Let's see what their third year has in store!
