It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The girls are seven months old and it is almost Christmas.  It seems like summer was just ending and our sweet little babies were just learning how to roll over.  These days they are sitting up on their own like super stars and are "this" close to crawling already.  They are both getting up on their hands and knees and they can scoot themselves around with ease.  They can turn themselves in the direction that they want to go and they're off!  Caroline was rocking on her hands and knees this evening and even doing a move that mimics the worm dance move!

By now they've tried many fruits and veggies - banana, squash, sweet potatoes, avocado, peaches, pears, peas, carrots, green beans, and corn.  Julia especially is a really good eater and as Keith says "I can't shovel it in her gullet fast enough."  Caroline is a little more reserved with her eating but she eats well too.  Avocado is not her thing though we learned.  They're eating baby food once a day and after the holidays we plan to bump it up to twice.

Gosh after what happened in Connecticut on Friday all I want to do is hug and love on my sweet babies (Colin included in my babies) and cherish them every minute.  Being a parent makes the anguish that those parents must be experiencing so much more palpable.  Seeing those precious little faces in the news just breaks my heart. I hope that the lives that were senselessly taken will not be completely in vain.  I really hope that there will be some desperately needed good that comes from this, hopefully in the form of gun control.  Can anyone really argue with a straight face that there is a legitimate reason for a person to own an assault weapon?

On a brighter note this has been a very fun month for us.  It is the girls' first Christmas and now that they are sitting it just seems like they are even more included in what we are doing somehow.  They're right in the thick of things when we play.  They are experiencing the sights and sounds of the holidays right along with us and it is so fun!  And this is the first Christmas that Colin really gets it.  The first thing he does every morning is open his two advent calendars - one with chocolates and one with ornaments to hang on a tree.  He was not afraid of Santa at all this year and was anxious to tell him what he wants.  He loves listening to Christmas carols and he's really into A Charlie Brown Christmas.  He wants to read the book and watch the special repeatedly.  Christmas is just so wonderful when experienced through a child's eyes.  I can't wait for Christmas morning! We'll actually be in Naperville and Chicago for Christmas this year so we have to leave a note for Santa here telling him to deliver the kids' presents there.  Hopefully that doesn't confuse him.  Here are a few things we've been up to this month.

  1. You guys have such a beautiful family! So many great photos and memories here. We hope you enjoy your time off with your young'ins--your Christmas card was absolutely gorgeous, too. I'll have to remember to check out that company next year--our pictures were microscopic! :)

And a-to-the-men on the assault weapons ban. A.to.the.men. I've been snuggling with Lewis a little more and trying to be more present with him. I feel so bad for those families. Urgh.

Happy holidays and safe travels to you all. Love, K
