They have gotten much bigger since they were born. It is obvious in their big bellies and little rolls on their thighs. They are turning into little chunky monkeys, especially Julia. Their one month check up was supposed to be tomorrow but the A/C is broken at our pediatrician's office so now we won't have our appointment until next Monday. Our unofficial weigh-in at home has them both around 8 lbs.
They are not quite as easy as they were in their first weeks. They don't always fall asleep at the drop of a hat anymore but yet they aren't really ready for a nap schedule yet either. So it is a kind of in-between time where sometimes we can get them to nap easily and other times it is a struggle. The cradle swing that we bought used from a neighbor is a big help for putting them to sleep and we're actually looking for a second used one. It is pretty impossible to rock them both to sleep at the same time with two of us home, let alone once I go back to work! They fuss more than they used to too although it still isn't bad. They are very gassy but it seems like they are always expelling the gas which must be a good sign. It only hurts if you can't get it out, right?
Sometimes it is really hard to juggle the needs of three children and a household as you can imagine. There is always something that needs to be done so it is often one parent looking after three kids while the other one makes bottles, makes dinner, does laundry, cleans, etc. Unfortunately Colin watches more movies and/or plays more games on his MobiGo or the iPad than he used to but sometimes that is what it takes.
His behavior swings back and forth between very good and sweet to awful. He has bad days and good days. I wish we knew what brought on the bad days! A few days lately he has refused to nap and that is exhausting on us all. We all need that down time and he needs his rest. He continues to be very sweet to his sisters which is a wonderful thing. He gently kisses them and hugs them and has even wanted to feed them.
We've still continued to make it out and about with the girls. Last week we went to the park, had a play date and went to the COSI science museum to see the Big Machines exhibit (like Touch-a-Truck only a lot less crowded). We are actually traveling with them tomorrow. We're going to Indiana for 3 nights to visit
our parents and other family. I hope it all goes smoothly! I think it will be nice to get out of the house for a change of scenery and I can't wait for the girls to meet some of our extended family (like my Grandpa).
I had a little bit of a rough patch with pumping. I got a minor mastitis infection which I had to get antibiotics for. I had the chills and a fever and some aches like the flu last week. Luckily it didn't last long and I've learned not to skip any pumping sessions!
We had a good Father's Day. All five of us went out to dinner which we were a little nervous about. We got to the restaurant at 4 PM which was a little early but we were hungry and there was plenty of room for us and no wait! The girls pretty much slept the whole time so it was a success! Colin and I made pancakes for Keith that morning and we finished out the day with gifts and a family movie night (Cars 2). It was a good day.

Well, that's all I have time for now. I have a feeling that blog posts might be a little more spaced out in the next few months but I'll do my best!

Maggie, your girls are just precious!! Sleeping babies are the sweetest.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how much work it must be! I have enough work with just one right now! Amélie has recently also had some moody moments. She has very little patience and will erupt into a crying tantrum. She has a few teeth coming in, so I've been blaming it on that sometimes. It's tough to deal with it.
I had a few incidents with plugged ducts at the beginning with Amélie and it was unbelievably painful. I'm sorry you've had to deal with mastitis. It's awful. Hope you get well quickly.
I love the updates! You still manage to get more in that I do. :)
I totally know how it is with Colin. Charlotte also switches from being an angel to being demonic. It's so hard!!! But I'm sure it's doubly (triply?) hard with twins. You really can't do that man-on-man defense that Chris and I are able to do with Phoebe and Charlotte. The period between 2 weeks and 6 weeks was probably the hardest with Phoebe, gas-wise. It gets better!
ReplyDeleteI read this but forgot to comment--I'm sorry to hear that things aren't as smooth as they were at first. Hang in there! Did you get a 2nd swing?
ReplyDeleteOne day at a time. :) You can do it. Deep breaths. And Colin starts preschool in the fall! :)
