Well, I've made it to 35 weeks! I've been on bed rest for two whole weeks now. I just had a doctor's appointment a couple of hours ago and I have made no progress. I am still 3 cm dilated so that is great news! They have set an induction date of May 17th (37 weeks, 2 days) if I make it that long. Mono/di twins have some risks involved with going much beyond 37 weeks which is why I'll be induced at all. At first the doctors were thinking I would be lucky to make it that long but now I'm not so sure. It seems like I could hang on that long after all!
Now about bed rest. Mine is not strict bed rest. My doctor's orders were to lie down as much as possible. So I do lie down mostly, but I sit quite a bit too and try to limit how much standing and walking around I do. I try to climb our stairs only as many times in a day as is absolutely necessary. I lie down for most of the day while Keith and Colin are gone. But I still sit at the table for breakfast and dinner and I often sit on the couch to play with Colin or sit outside in a chair while Keith and Colin are playing.
So what have I been doing? I have finished Season 1 of "The Killing" on streaming Netflix (an awesome show on AMC if you haven't checked it out) and Season 1 of "Downton Abbey" which I loved and will probably pay to watch Season 2 from iTunes since my mother-in-law gave me a gift card for iTunes to help me cure my boredom. I have finished The Hunger Games and am almost done with Catching Fire (the second book in the trilogy). I have done a lot of work on the girls' baby books and lots of web surfing. I take naps and fold laundry and go to my doctor's appointments and non-stress tests. I really haven't gone stir crazy but it is starting to get a little bit boring. My first week or so I had a cold so lying around was very appealing.
Last Wednesday we had an ultrasound. It turned out to be our last ultrasound with the Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors at our hospital. They told me I have graduated and don't need to come back! At that appointment the girls were estimated to weigh 5.5 lbs each! Unfortunately, Baby B had turned and she is now breech. I think she is still breech based on what I can feel. This means my chances for a successful vaginal delivery are somewhat diminished but not blown away. It is certainly still possible. They will try to turn her after Baby A is born and may even deliver her breech if turning is not successful.
So that is the latest and greatest on what's going on here. Just waiting and seeing!

I'm so glad you've made it to 35 weeks - that's terrific news! And 5.5 lbs sounds very solid to me. My coworker had a baby at 39 weeks who was only 5 lbs.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed Downton Abbey - too bad it's not streaming on PBS.org anymore.
Can't wait to see pictures of the girls in two weeks or less! How exciting! And let's hope you can deliver both vaginally - another co-worker had boy/girl twins and one was born vaginally and the other c-section.
Take care!
So glad to hear everyone is still staying put for now!
ReplyDeleteWe watched The Killing, thinking all along that it would be wrapped up in one season--we were so annoyed with the last episode and were unsure if we'd keep watching, but so far Season 2 is pretty good.
Have you seen Friday Night Lights? I watched the entire series last summer while Lewis was little--it's on Netflix Instant. I really enjoyed it!
You are such a trooper! So glad that all is well and the girls are hanging in there! :) I second Kristen's suggestion of Friday Night Lights!!!
