We are chipping away at our to-do and to-buy lists, slowly but surely. As far as to-dos go:
1. Build a door in the bonus room - DONE!
2. Hang blackout roller shades and curtain rods on all the windows in that room (there are 4) - DONE
3. Pick out curtains - DONE. We picked out pink curtains with a circle pattern from Target. We just need to find two more panels since our store didn't have enough. I am in the process of ironing and hanging these.
4. Paint the closet in that room and possibly hang more shelves for storage
5. Finish the replacement closet door and hang it.
6. Pick out and buy a bed, mattress, and bedding for Colin and transition him to a big-boy bed. I did buy a quilt and sham from Target so this is partially done. I looked at beds at an unfinished wood store here in town who will then stain the wood whatever color you want. We may decide to just go with a headboard. We hope to start the transition in March when he's two and a half.
7. Pick out and buy cribs - Colin's crib is a dropside crib plus I want matching ones so we are buying two new ones. I ordered one from Babies-R-Us but had to return it because the color was all wrong. I have ordered another one and hope it is better. If so, I'll order a matching one!
The to-do list also includes some to-buys but here are a few more for good measure:
1. Double strollers - DONE! I got a Baby Jogger City Micro double stroller in dark grey (a $250 stroller) for $150 off of a Twins Club classified ad. It is in great shape, is lightweight, and it is easy to push and turn. I also got a double Snap-n-Go (normally $90) for $25, also from a Twins Club classified. Score!
2. Decorations - I'm planning on buying some wildflower decals from HearthSong to decorate the nursery
3. Crib sheets and crib skirts - I'd love to find some used ones - maybe at the Twins Sale in late April if I can wait that long?
4. I have gotten a ton of loans and hand-me-downs from people. My neighbor gave me a crib mattress, a boppy pillow, a Bumbo seat, 2 crib mattress covers, and 4 white crib sheets. My wonderful sister-in-law Erica has loaned us 2 boppy pillows (now we have 2 for downstairs and 2 for upstairs), a bouncy seat, a Fisher Price Rock-n-Play sleeper, swaddle blankets, and some clothes, just to start. She is sending another whole load of stuff now that we know we are having girls and now that Macy has outgrown some things like her carseat, Bumbo, and the Baby Bjorn.
5. I want to find one more bounce seat so we can have 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs. Maybe another exersaucer too in the future?
6. A big area rug for the nursery
7. A rocking recliner or another glider - we want two in their room
8. Twins nursing pillow - hope to buy one used at the Twins Sale or via a classified ad
Notice that potty-training Colin is not on this list. We do hope to do this before the babies come but right now he doesn't seem ready. He sits on it every night before bath and we read a book to him but we can't convince him to really use it. We may do a 3-day "immersion" weekend in potty training but we would wait awhile before attempting this.
So looking at this list, it seems pretty long to me. One thing at a time!

It's so great you're getting so much stuff from family and friends. And don't worry about the potty-training. It doesn't look like Charlotte is there either. Very frustrating, but I also figure that in many ways it might be easier for you to deal with changing Colin's diapers when you're super busy with the twins than dropping everything to help him use the potty.
ReplyDeleteAfter potty training two boys, it is super easy if you wait until it is there idea and they are ready. The hardest thing for me was realizing that that may NOT be on the "schedule" that I had in mind. Both of my boys were super easy but they were both super ready. Good luck!! You should post some pics of your rooms!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you've done a lot already! You still have a lot of time to finish checking off the rest of your list.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the stroller! We have the City Mini and we love it. I'm considering getting the double stroller if Amélie's still into the idea of riding along.
We also have a big gently used sale here in town twice a year and I'm looking forward to finding out what we're having so that I can either sell a lot of Amélie's things and/or buy things for the new baby. I went last time and it was awesome. Once we find out the sex, it'll be hard to hold off on buying cute itty bitty baby things. =)
If you are interested, I'd love to gift you some homemade/sewn items for your girls. =) I recently made some curtains (and other baby things) for Angela Romo long-distance style. Can't wait to see what the room is looking like.
I was going to mention Overstock.com as a possible place to find an area rug. They had a pretty large selection and have $2.95 shipping (though I bet it's a lot to ship it back if you need to make a return). We got Lewis' rug from there and were very pleased. Just a heads up!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm not sure if all Targets are the same as far as clearance goes, but mine today had some great deals in the baby section (50-70% off). There were crib sheets ($3), bottles, swaddle sacks ($3.88, down from $12.99--I bought one for a friend), and other random items that they're clearing out for the spring and/or 'baby season,' I guess.
