Summer Updates

Wow, it has been one hot summer! I can't believe that it is August already although July was somewhat of a long month for us. It has been a really hot summer here. We've had temperatures in the 90s for many days now with lots of humidity. The one nice thing about the weather is that there have been plenty of summer thunderstorms which I love!

The month of July started off with Ms. Krystal needing to be gone for another month due to a second surgery related to her first one. While we had a little bit more notice this time, it was still somewhat of a surprise to all of us. Luckily she is doing much better now and this surgery was less of an ordeal than the last one for her. The other lucky thing is that it happened during the summer so it was much easier for us to find back-up care for Colin this time around. My nephews have a summer babysitter that watches them three days out of the week while my sister works. We took Colin to their house and he spent his days with his two cousins and their sitter. And on the days that my sister doesn't work, their sitter was able to come to our house and watch Colin on his own so it really worked out well. There were a couple of days where my nephews' sitter couldn't make it to our house but luckily a college-aged neighbor of ours that is THE go-to neighborhood sitter was available. It really worked out well actually. Colin LOVED the time he spent with his cousins and talks about going to their house all the time. They really enjoyed getting to spend some extra time with him too I think.

But now Ms. Krystal is back and we are happy about that!

It's been a fun month spent doing lots of summer things. I joined a Mom's Group for working mothers. So far I've been to 3 events and everyone seems really nice. They do a book club (which is really just social hour), Moms' nights out, and plenty of events with the kids. Colin and I have gone to a play date at the pool and one at the local ice cream parlor that also has an indoor play area. I'm enjoying it so far!

We've also been to the pool, the splash pad, the state fair, a jazz concert in the park for kids, BBQs..lots of things that make me love summer! And we had an overnight date night! Colin had a slumber party with his cousins while Keith and I headed to Columbus for a night on the town. We went out for a nice romantic dinner and then went bar-hopping in a fun area of town called the Short North. We had a drink in whatever spot looked interesting to us and then moved on to the next spot. Our hotel was within walking distance so driving was not a concern. It was a really fun night for us...much different than our usual routine!

Keith's parents are headed up here today for the Irish Festival, another summer staple. Ms. Krystal and Colin are going to plan a play date or two with my nephews and their sitter before school starts again. That will be here before we know it! We're planning the little man's second birthday party already, it's so hard to believe it!
