Colin had a great first Halloween! In Dublin our Trick-or-Treat night was Thursday. It was a perfect fall evening - not too chilly but brisk enough for our neighbor to have a roaring firepit in his driveway while passing out candy. We set up our camp chairs in our driveway and passed out candy while Colin slept soundly in his Sweet Pea costume. It was great to show him off to some neighbors who either had not met him yet or hadn't seen his adorable outfit. It really felt like our first "kid" activity. As Keith put it, it was fun last year to hand out candy to the kids in our neighborhood but it's just one of those activities that is so much more special when you have your own child to share it with! We look forward to many more of these. We stayed out until it got dark and the traffic started to wane.

Saturday was Trick-or-Treat night in my sister's town so we drove there for pizza and cake (for my birthday) and then to help them pass out their candy. The boys hadn't seen Colin in awhile and neither had his Uncle Mike so it was good that they could play and cuddle with him. Colin wore his Sweet Pea costume again and slept soundly during trick-or-treating. It is a good thing that his costume is so warm because it was chillier on Saturday evening. It was a great first Halloween for the boy!

In other news, today is my 30th birthday. I think I feel 30...being a Mom has definitely changed me and I think the new decade fits well with my new role as a mommy. Turning 30 on a Monday is a bit of a bummer but I'm having lots of celebrations - one with my sister and her family on Saturday and my parents are coming up tomorrow and spending the night (and bringing another cake). Keith and I are having a little celebration tonight too. I'm happy to be spending the day with my favorite little guy and celebrating with all my family. Life is good!
Sounds like a fun Halloween! And of course, Happy Birthday, Maggie! I was thinking about you this morning. I'm not 30 yet (not for another year), but I too feel like a different person, not really part of the 20s anymore now that I'm a mom. I hope you're enjoying yourself and that your boys spoil you bunches today! Lots of love, Stephanie
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of changing the night of trick-or-treating... especially when it happens to fall on a weekend!!! I don't know about those Ohio rules... :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Maggie!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm with Erin on the crazy Ohio rules!! It's so nice to hear you and Keith are loving your new parent roles. I'm sure it's very natural for both of you.
Hope you have a wonderful birthday week.
It's not just Ohio! I was used to this having grown up in Indiana. My sister in law told me that in Wisconsin, trick or treating is always the Sunday closest to Halloween from 1-3 in the afternoon! That seemed weired to me to have it during the day. Must be a Midwest thing!
