Well I must admit that the task of writing Colin's 8th birthday blog post completely slipped my mind. Better late than never, I'm here now and ready to capture what Colin Okrzesik is like as an 8 year old!
We celebrated Colin's birthday a little bit early (over Labor Day weekend) in Chicago. We were headed there so that Keith could go to a Cubs game with his brother and sister. This was their birthday gift to him and it was finally time to cash in on the gift. The rest of us tagged along and hung out with the rest of the family while those three were at the game. Keith's folks also went to Chicago for the weekend so we were all together. We played in the park and at Heather and Todd's house while the siblings were at the game watching the Cubs play to a victory. The next day we all went to the Arboretum in Lisle and had a little birthday party for Colin there at lunch time. It was the first time that he's been able to celebrate his birthday with all of his Okrzesik family in quite some time so that was really nice. And it was a beautiful weekend so that definitely helped too!

His actual birthday was on a Thursday. That evening we went out to dinner at the place of his choosing (Old Bag of Nails for shrimp) and then celebrated at home with cake and presents. He requested a chocolate AND vanilla cake this year so we went with a marbled effect. I think he enjoyed his special day.

Colin is doing well in second grade. He is still an avid reader and also loves math. He is always reading many books at the same time and gravitates more toward non-fiction. He loves video games too, especially Minecraft. He likes watching YouTube especially Dude Perfect and watching people (Brian) play video games. I'm not sure I understand the appeal. He is playing soccer and basketball and will play baseball in the spring. He loves being around friends and is very social. And he's still huge. At his 8 year check up he was 56.25 inches (4' 8.25") which the doctor said is the size of an average 11 year old. He weighs 75 pounds!
Happy Birthday Colin (a little late)!
I love getting your updates. Wow! I can't believe how big Colin is. He has 6 inches on Charlotte and about 20 pounds. :) She just grows very slowly. Sounds like he had a great birthday. Hugs from Folsom!
