Fun on the Fourth

We headed to Southern Indiana for the long fourth of July weekend.  We left on Thursday morning and went to Grandma and Grandpa's.  Jeff, Erica, and Macy arrived a couple of hours after we did.  The weather was rainy all day but it did stop long enough for us to head to Polly's Freeze for ice cream after dinner (check it off the summer bucket list)!  We enjoyed a nice dinner together (a cook-out moved inside) and plenty of time to play.  The kids played outside in the rain for awhile.  No one seemed to mind!

Grandma dug out Uncle Jeff and Daddy's old GI Joe's which Colin now owns.  His face says it all!
Grandma feels the love!
On Friday after lunch we headed out to a cabin that we had rented about 10 minutes away from my parents' house.  Their house isn't big enough for both our family and my sister's family to all stay the night.  So we got this cabin rental as an alternative as well as a chance to enjoy some different activities like canoeing and tubing (the cabin was right on the Blue River), and enjoying a slide show of Mom and Dad's old slides on the big wrap-around porch. The cabin is part of an old church camp built in the 1950's.  The part where we stayed was the counselor's cabin (and it is called The Cardinal House).  Nearby are the little cabins where the campers stayed and up the hill is the old mess hall which is now fixed up and used for events.

Colin had a blast tubing in the Blue River!
Eli loves the water and loved tubing and canoeing with his brother and Dad
Watching the swimmers from the bank
Plenty of room for the whole family to eat
Getting ready to roast marshmallows and make s'mores after dinner
There was a nice big kitchen for making large meals
Julia gives Aunt Nancy a nice snuggle
Playing Headbandz!
There was no bathtub so the girls got sink baths!
Colin is pumped for the fireworks show.  He got to stay up very late to watch them.
But after a few he decided he would rather watch from inside where it wasn't so loud .  He did well until the huge finale when he decided he was ready to go to bed!
We had a great trip all around.  It was so nice to spend time with the Okrzesiks and to get to see the Naperville Okrzesiks again so soon.  And our cabin trip was really fun and will certainly make a lasting memory.  Next Saturday we leave for our vacation in Michigan!
