They got their 4 vaccinations each on this visit and were pretty fussy that night and the next morning. We had to give them a couple of doses of Tylenol for their pain (poor things). But they are completely healthy and thriving! Julia's bad diaper rash has cleared up completely.
They have started social smiling (at about 7 weeks) and cooing. It is so sweet! We are trying to figure out a better eating and sleeping schedule for them too. They are down to 6 bottles a day now (down from 7) and we have eliminated the "dream feed" bottle that we used to give them at 10 PM before we went to bed. It just made for a late night for us and we'd rather put them to bed earlier. So now we give them their last bottle of the day at 8 PM and put them to bed for the night. They sleep until 2-3 AM which is great! They then sleep until 7-8 AM and eat again at 8. They don't really have a set nap schedule but we are working on trying to make them a little more consistent with naps too.
I have continued to struggle with the mastitis. As soon as I finished my last round of antibiotics the red, tenderness returned (luckily no flu symptoms though). I am now on a 14 day course of a new antibiotic, have visited my ob/gyn's office, have spoken with a lactation consultant, and have an appointment with a breast specialist next week (I'm really not sure exactly what that is). I am pumping every 3 hours which is exhausting. My doctor thinks I never really beat the original infection. If all of these things don't work, I may have to switch to formula but I'm hopeful that we can still get it under control.
I start work on August 2 so I am in my final stretch of maternity leave. I don't really want to go back but I know I have to. I will feel better about things once I'm healthy and feel like I have this infection under control!
Colin continues to do really well with using the potty. He has had very few accidents and has recently started going #2 in the potty with some regularity. He uses public potties with no problem and can go on command (like before we leave the house). He likes to hold it in though and we often have to make him go sit on the potty which I guess is pretty common. Toddlers are too busy playing to want to sit on the potty!
I can't believe how big they're getting! They really don't look like newborns anymore. I love that last picture!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the mastitis - that sounds awful. And pumping every three hours? Do you have to pump every three hours at night too? I hope not! Don't be too hard on yourself. I know it's not ideal, but the girls will thrive just as well on formula.
As for Colin, holding it in is so common. Charlotte never wants to stop what she's doing to use the potty. We still have to make her go.
Enjoy your last few weeks of maternity leave - it really does fly by so fast. xoxoxo
They are precious! I love their names...just beautiful! I hope you are feeling better soon!
