One Peanut

Well today started off a little shaky but ended up wonderfully. I noticed some light spotting today and after reading about that in my "What to Expect" book and checking a few websites, I decided to call my doctor even though what I was reading indicated it was probably nothing to be too concerned about.

Well, I was a little surprised when the nurse told me that I should come in today and that they had an appointment in 20 minutes and could I make that? After pulling Keith awkwardly out of a big meeting, we headed out of work and to the doctors's office (it took us exactly 3 minutes to get there...it is pretty darn close).

We waited there anxiously for about 40 minutes. The nurse explained to us that they were waiting for an ultrasound room to open up so at that point we were pretty excited about having the ultrasound four days early (although we were still pretty nervous too).

As it turns it out, there was nothing to be nervous about! The baby is absolutely fine. We saw him moving his arms and legs and we saw his heart beating strongly. The doctor said that the baby was completely normal and healthy and the strong heartbeat means that there is nothing at all to be worried about. She said that at this point after seeing the healthy baby with a strong heart my chances for a miscarriage are only 3%! It was so wonderful seeing our baby on the TV screen. It was an absolutely amazing feeling to see that little baby moving around. It really made it seem much more real to us.

She took measurements of Baby O and based on those, she updated my due date to be September 9. That's right...09/09/09. So we'll see! Oh and yes, there is only one peanut, not two or more! Here's Baby O's first photo:

His head is on the right side and you can see two little hands under the head and his feet on the left. We're glad to see you Baby O!

  1. Thanks for the update. Glad everything is great with the baby. Good idea to blog about Baby O. Is this your official pre-baby nickname or are you considering others?

  2. Hurray for Baby O! I can't believe how little they start out. Our Peanut (at my first u/s around 7 weeks) was .34 cm. Crazy. And now she's how big?! -- as long as an ear of corn, apparently and over a pound in weight. Anyway, so excited for you and Keith - only wished you lived closer.
